As we all know, the balsa wood can be used to make series of gliding gliders. For centuries, both the adults and the children have played the gliding gliders for fun. The balsa wood can be used to make both simple models of gliding gliders and highly complicated gliders which is capable of acrobatic flight. If you want to make a simple balsa glider, you can follow the design steps and it won't be difficult for you to build a balsa glider when you have practiced a little and prepared the needed materials. You will need to prepare such materials: medium/straight grain balsa sheet, hard grade balsa sheet, printout of glider design, photocopy of plan templates, modeling knife, ammonia based glue, sanding block, fine sandpaper, razor block, hacksaw, pencil and so on.    

Step 1
Cut the wing out of the medium/straight grain balsa sheet with the photocopied template. Use the sanding block to smooth the front edge of the wing. Find if there are any areas where need to washout on the wing and sand the areas. The sanded areas are usually on the edges of the wing and used to improve flight stability

Step 2
Use sandpaper to sand the whole wing after thinning the wings from the center to the tips with a razor block. Use a pencil to mark the wing breaks and use a fresh modeling knife blade to cut them in order to raise wing tips. Use ammonia based glue to glue the wing breaks back on to the wing at the angle specified in the model plans. As you can see, it is easier to build a flat wing.

Step 3
Use modeling knife to cut the hard grade balsa. The fuselage section will be cut from it. Make the front of the fuselage heavier by thinning the rear of it. Use ammonia based glue to glue the wings to the fuselage after the fuselage has been smoothed. Sand the tail and fin sections after cutting them from the medium grade balsa. Mark where the model design indicates to be glued and glue the two pieces to the fuselage.
