As we all know, balsa wood is the most favourite materials to make models. In some situations, some materials could be used to replace the balsa wood. For example, some handicraftsmen use metals to create model towers and bicycles. However, when it comes to produce the boat models, there is no other materials could attain the same durability and the same flexibility.

On the contrary, the balsa boats are endowed with lighter density and they are easy to play on water.In order to make the balsa boat, you need to prepare suitable tools. Especially while you are going to place the boat in water, you need to make sure the materials you need are completely waterproof. Besides, you need to prepare sharp knife to deal with the balsa wood and you should make sure the wood glue is resistant to water.

First, you need to determine the size of your balsa boat. Generally, if it is the first time you are going to design the model boat. I strongly recommend that you should make a smaller boat with simple design. The main structures of the boats consist of the boat body, the mast and the bottom of the boat.

Second, you need to draw your design on the paper. You'd better make the drawing as large as your design. Thereby, you could cut the balsa wood easier. And I would strongly suggest you to cut out of all the parts of the boats before gluing them together.

Finally, you could connect the parts of the boat together. The connection between the bottom and the body should be paid more attention. You should make sure the connection is tight enough to avoid any water to enter. While you have completed the balas boat, you could paint it to expand its shelf time.
